Legal framework
Healthcare documentation uses two types of signature. Which one applies depends on the document and who's signing.
Biometric signature
A handwritten signature on a signpad or tablet. It captures not just the image of the signature but the dynamics of the stroke — speed, pressure, timing.
Digital signature with a certificate
A signature with a qualified certificate. Used by the doctor or the facility wherever a recognized electronic signature is required.
Both types comply with Act No. 297/2016 Coll. on trust services for electronic transactions and with the eIDAS regulation. An electronic signature has legal effect and cannot be rejected as evidence merely because it is electronic.
